Publication Abstract: | In order to make use of prior knowledge, such as analytic behavior or a known value at a kinematic endpoint, regressions often make use of floating normalization parameters to allow the fit to shift the data to the known physical limit. As there is often no unique way to make use of this prior knowledge or apply these shifts, different analysis choices can lead to very different conclusions from the same set of data. In this work, we use the Mainz elastic data set with its 1422 cross section points and 31 normalization parameters to illustrate how a single difference in a subjective analysis decision can dramatically affect the results. |
